Fasting and Praying For Coming Revival

Fasting and Praying For Coming Revival

Every modern-day revival has come about because someone or some group of Christians fasted and prayed to move the hand of God for revival/harvest.  “Revival,” of course, refers to the hearts of Christians, while “Harvest” refers to the un-saved.  When the hearts of Christians are cold, unloving and dead in sins, it is time for the hearts of God’s people to be revived and brought back to life.  When the hearts of Christians are fully revived and on fire, harvest is inevitable.

It is said that Evan Roberts and his group of young saints fasted and prayed for five years and God moved His hand over Wales and the Great Welsh Revival took place.  Charles Finney and a group of Christians fasted and prayed for over six years before the Second Reformation was sparked.  William Seymour and Frank Bartleman fasted and prayed for almost seven years before God moved and the Azusa Street Revival was birthed.  They were so skinny from fasting that their wives feared for their lives.  Likewise, every revival, big or small, was preceded by much fasting and praying by some faithful Christian or some group of saints.

The coming revival will take much fasting and prayer.  The Great Welsh Revival lasted about eighteen months and netted between 100,000 and 180,000 new converts.  The Azusa Street Revival brought similar numbers, although it is credited with spreading Pentecostalism around the world and eventually touching over 600 million people up to the present time.  The coming revival will cover the entire world and hundreds of millions of people will come into the kingdom of God.  It is going to take much fasting   and prayer by many Christians all over the world to move the hand of God.  The anticipated revival/harvest will be much larger in size than all the past revivals put together.  It will be the last hurrah for the Church!

God never does anything as major as a revival without someone first fasting and praying hard for it.  When Daniel, the prophet, learned that Jeremiah had prophesied that Israel would be set free from slavery in Babylon after seventy years, he set himself to fast and pray for the release of Israel.  He knew that the seventy years was almost up.  Da. 9:2.  As a result of Daniel’s fastings and prayers, God freed Israel from captivity.  Even though it had been prophesied by Jeremiah, Daniel knew that God wanted someone to fast and pray for it.  God respects our sovereignty and free will and will not do something on His own without someone asking Him.  Of course, the more important the movement or event is, the more fasting and praying are required.

Isaiah and other prophets prophesied often of the coming of the Messiah.  In fact, many were looking for the Messiah in the days of Jesus.  “Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found Him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”  Jn. 1:45.  They were looking for the Messiah!  They knew what the prophets had said about the coming of the Messiah.  But, it wasn’t automatic just because Moses and other prophets such as Isaiah prophesied His coming.

God raised up Simeon and Anna to fast and pray for many years for the coming of Jesus.  Lk. 2:25-27.  Anna fasted and prayed for over 84 years before Jesus came in the flesh.  God would not move His hand until someone or some group fasted and prayed for the coming of Jesus.  It is a spiritual principle.

Similarly, although the Bible reveals that there will be one last and great revival/harvest before the end of the world, God will not move His hand to bring revival unless someone or some group fasts and prays for it.  It is important that we begin to fast and pray for revival.

The devil knows that this coming revival will mean the end of his reign on earth.  Therefore, he will fight it with all his might.  In the past, the devil didn’t care much if he lost a few hundred thousand souls, or even a million; but this last revival is going to spread over the entire earth and bring Satan’s kingdom down.  At the present time and ever since Adam and Eve, Satan has had ruler spirits or strong men ruling over every inhabited area of the world.

The Bible says that Satan is the prince of the power of the air.  Eph. 2:2.  Even Jesus called him the ruler of this world.  Jn. 12:1; Jn. 14:30; Jn. 16:11.  He is the prince of the power of the air because he rules from the mid-heavens, the atmosphere around the earth.  That is why Jesus said, “. . . whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”  Mt. 16:19; Mt.; 18:18.  We on earth can pray and bind up Satan’s strong men in the mid-heavens.  In fact, unless and until we bind up Satan’s ruler spirits or strong men, they will oppose and block any revival/harvest.  Therefore, part of our praying must include binding up of Satan’s strong men.

Jesus said, “Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man?  and then he will spoil his house.”  Mt. 12:29; Mk. 3:27; Lk. 11:21.

One cannot successfully bind up Satan’s strong men unless we first take away the rights that a strong man has to oppress and control his area or principality.  These rights are usually curses.  God, Himself, pronounces many curses upon the people caused by their sins.  Deu. 27, 28.  In order to break those curses, one must first repent of his sins.  Jesus Christ made provisions for curses to be broken.  Galatians 3:13 says, “Christ hath redeemed us form the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: . . . .”   Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross made a way for all curses to be broken by His blood, once the sin has been forgiven.

The prayer of Daniel, the prophet, in Daniel, Chapter 9 is our guide.  Daniel fasted and prayed and interceded for the people of Israel.  Even though he was perhaps the holiest man in Israel at that time, he identified with the sins of the people.  He didn’t say, “They have sinned,” he said (W)e have sinned, and committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments.”  Da. 9:5.  Daniel said, “And while I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God . . . .”  Da. 9:20.   He identified with the sins of Israel as a true intercessor would.

In verse 11, Daniel recognized that the sins of the people had brought curses over the people that gave Satan’s strong men the right to oppress and resist the liberation of God’s people out of Babylon.  He said, “Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against Him.”  Da. 9:11.  (Underlining added)

In Daniel 10:12, the angel of the Lord explained to Daniel that he was sent by God to give Daniel His message from the very first day that Daniel set himself to fast and pray.  But it took the angel 21 days to reach Daniel because he was resisted by the strong men that Satan had sent to stop Daniel from petitioning God to release Israel.  Da. 10:12-13.  The angel called Satan’s strong man the “Prince of Persia.”

The angel also explained that when he returned to heaven, he has to fight his way through against the Prince of Persia (the name of one of Satan’s strong men in the mid-heavens or atmosphere around the earth) once again.  Only because Michael the archangel was sent by God to fight the strong men was the angel able to reach Daniel.  Apparently, Satan had sent the Prince of Grecia, another strong man, to help fight against God’s angels.

The point is there was a war in heaven between God’s angels and Satan’s strong men.  Satan knew of Jeremiah’s prophecy and Daniel’s fasting and praying and he set out to resist it.  The same thing is going to happen as we fast and pray for revival/harvest in the Philippines and elsewhere.  Satan is going to resist it mightily.  But in the end we will prevail if we unite in prayer.

Although God is infinitely more powerful than Satan and our power through the Holy Spirit is stronger than that of his demons, we must respect the devil’s strength.  Individually, not many Christians can come against Satan’s ruler spirits by themselves.  But together with other Christians, our power is multiplied exponentially.  Deuteronomy 32:30 says, “How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the Lord had shut them up?”  In other words, when two pray together, their spiritual power is increased ten fold.  If another joins them, it is increased another ten fold.

Great power is found in agreement.  The power of the Godhead is found in agreement.  1 John 5:7-8 says, “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.  And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.”  Jesus Christ, the Son, is called “The Word of God.”  Rev. 19:13.  Therefore, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost are one in perfect unity and agreement.

The Water is the Word of God.  Ephesians 5:26 says, “That He might sanctify and cleanse it (the Church) with the washing of water by the word.”  The Holy Spirit agrees with the Word of God and with the blood.  Ever feel spiritually dry?  Try praying the Blood of Jesus and you will soon feel the presence of the Holy Spirit.  He always manifests Himself when the Blood of Jesus is mentioned.  He agrees with the Blood.

Unity is so important a spiritual principle that God promises great things when brothers dwell together in unity.  Ps. 133.  In fact, where there is unity, “(T)he Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.”  Verse 3.

In Matthew 18:19-20, the Lord says, “Again I say unto you.  That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of My Father which is in heaven.  For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them.”  I recall that one of the members in my church worked in the Personnel Office in a local hospital in Honolulu.  One day, her daughter called her at work to inform her that she just found out that the son of a friend was in that same hospital in a coma for over three months as a result of an auto accident.  She asked her mother to pray for the young man.  The mother called a Christian nurse to pray together with her.  They went to the hospital room where the young man was and began to pray in agreement that he would come out of his coma.  When they said, “Amen” he opened his eyes and came out of his coma.

The nurses on the floor became very excited and asked them to pray for another man who was in a coma.  They received the same results.  There is power in agreement.

God is putting His end-time army together at this very moment.  It is a great privilege and honor to be in His end-time army, perhaps the greatest calling you can have.  In his book entitled The Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation (Christian Fellowship Publishers, Inc. 1980) Watchman Nee says,

If Christians view as their greatest responsibility on earth the saving of people for their souls, then they have failed to accomplish the highest will of God.  They ought to realize that they have a responsibility even greater than the saving of people for their souls: that they are to bring this age to an end and bring in the kingdom of God.  Their highest responsibility is to witness the destruction of God’s archenemy Satan and all his powers of darkness.  They ought to view this as the chief objective of all their works.  P. 159.  (underlining added)

He goes on to say that, “We do not demean the work of evangelism, for the saving of men and women is a most glorious task which we should never despise; but in the work of saving souls let us not lose sight of the kingdom.”  P. 159.

Please join us in prayer for revival/harvest in the Philippines and elsewhere in the world.  We have been fasting every Friday and coming together to pray on Thursday and Friday nights.  Already, there are many churches that are praying with us but we need as many Christians as we can praying together for worldwide revival.

As you pray for revival/harvest, you may follow Daniel’s Prayer attached hereto.  One is the long form and the other is a short form.

When you sense that God has forgiven the sins of the people, please pray to bind up the strong men over your area of the world.  Pray that God will show you who Satan’s strong men are.  You can also discern the spirits by their fruit and by the history of your area.  For instance, a former battlefield may still harbor spirits or death and destruction.  A poor area may be ruled over by a spirit of poverty, discouragement and futility.  Other areas may have the following:  Murder and violence, hatred, anger, witchcraft, idolatry, racial tension and discrimination, corruption, pride, arrogance, occult and so forth.

Once these spirits are bound, you will see results.

Let’s pray together in unity and God will bless us!
